i couldn't use filezilla because there's an issue with using in windows server 2003 if the firewall is on.

i am not turning the firewall of so, i went looking, and my winscp - which i use for ssh - support ftp - and - synchronization!

filezilla doesn't do that.

the interface is easier and it saves connections settings faster.

this saved my bacon when i client raid got out of sync (sil 0680 dual ide to be exact)

and left me with two mirrored drives - booting up windows assigned c:\ to one of the drives and f:\ to the other
and marked one as active and the other as system

messing around with the raid controller somehow removed all the partitions on the c:\ volume

so i had to get the f:\ to boot - which it would but after logging in it would log me off

then i search for windows server 2003 logon logoff loop and found this (actually a pdf of this!) - which worked!!

I made this because I use Retrospect to backup my FileMaker server databases. Retrospect will to backup a folder and copy any changes it finds.

Since FileMaker server creates timestamped backups, it will see all the files as new because they are in a new folder.

This basically puts the backups back to the way FileMaker Server 5.5 did backups.

STEP 1 (5 Minutes) Set Plan for Day. Before turning on your computer, sit down with a blank piece of paper and decide what will make this day highly successful. What can you realistically accomplish that will further your goals and allow you to leave at the end of the day feeling like you've been productive and successful? Write those things down.

Now, most importantly, take your calendar and schedule those things into time slots, placing the hardest and most important items at the beginning of the day. And by the beginning of the day I mean, if possible, before even checking your email. If your entire list does not fit into your calendar, reprioritize your list. There is tremendous power in deciding when and where you are going to do something.

In their book The Power of Full Engagement, Jim Loehr and Tony Schwartz describe a study in which a group of women agreed to do a breast self-exam during a period of 30 days. 100% of those who said where and when they were going to do it completed the exam. Only 53% of the others did.

In another study, drug addicts in withdrawal (can you find a more stressed-out population?) agreed to write an essay before 5 p.m. on a certain day. 80% of those who said when and where they would write the essay completed it. None of the others did.

If you want to get something done, decide when and where you're going to do it. Otherwise, take it off your list.

STEP 2 (1 minute every hour) Refocus. Set your watch, phone, or computer to ring every hour. When it rings, take a deep breath, look at your list and ask yourself if you spent your last hour productively. Then look at your calendar and deliberately recommit to how you are going to use the next hour. Manage your day hour by hour. Don't let the hours manage you.

STEP 3 (5 minutes) Review. Shut off your computer and review your day. What worked? Where did you focus? Where did you get distracted? What did you learn that will help you be more productive tomorrow?

The power of rituals is their predictability. You do the same thing in the same way over and over again. And so the outcome of a ritual is predictable too. If you choose your focus deliberately and wisely and consistently remind yourself of that focus, you will stay focused. It's simple.

This particular ritual may not help you swim the English Channel while towing a cruise ship with your hands tied together. But it may just help you leave the office feeling productive and successful.

And, at the end of the day, isn't that a higher priority?

6.1 i want to use 1920 x 1200 - the old dell optiplex gx270 doesn't support that it's intel 82865g controller can't handle 1920 x 1200 at 60Hz - argh! i hate running this 24" lcd in less than it's full res - it is soo wrong
6.2 plugging my itouch into the usb port doesn't start charging it! i guess i have to install itunes to charge my hardware? UPDATE - yes - the itouch can only be charged if itunes is RUNNING!! LAME!!
6.3 trying to install fm10 server the fm10 installer says i can't install since fm9 server was there - read the install guide. i find and the read the install guide, and it says to find fm9 uninstall guide.
6.4 i just find all files named "filemaker" in the "/Library" - a flexnet folder - i guess for licesing - and launch daemonn plist - and i delete them - and it installs!!
6.5 also the download link from filemaker says it is a filemaker 10 advanced server - but the file downloads as "fms" - no indication it is the advanced at all. perhaps it is a single installer that looks at the install key?
6.6 also - this "new" (i can't say mine!) optiplex 270 has a p4 2.8 with HT which was disabled in bios - i enabled it - oops - xp is asking for some dlls - oh i will get these from the net - umm maybe all these virus sites aren't a good place to get files - oops it wants all these others files - cancel - cancel - cancel - all done! - what??? all done? i don't have a new ntoskrnl!!! now i guess this xp box won't boot if a reboot. i am tempted to reboot it and see it fail!!!

How to use Windows PC Fujitsu ScanSnap Scanner on the Mac

Fujitsu does not list MAC OS drivers for the Scansnap S510 on their English language website (maybe because they have a MAC version of the Scansnap S510, the Scansnap S510M). They do however list the MAC OS drivers for the Scansnap S510 on the Japanese language site, but as you may expect, the program is also in Japanese. The directions that follow are to get the Scansnap S510 working under MAC OS and in English language.

1. Download the Scansnap Manager software for the S510M (ScanSnap_V22L11.dmg, which you can find here http://www.fujitsu.com/global/support/computing/peripheral/scanners/drivers/mac.html) and install

2. Use Finder to locate the Scansnap Manager.app file -> right click or apple click it and select "Show Package Contents" -> double click to open the Contents folder -> double click to open the Resources folder

3. Copy the English.lproj folder to the desktop

4. Open the Applications folder and drag the Scansnap folder to the trash, then empty the trash

5. Now that we have the English Language folder for the Scansnap Manager software, we can go ahead and install the Japanese Snansnap Manager for the S510 under MAC OS, so open the Japanese site here http://scansnap.fujitsu.com/jp/downloads/mac.html and scroll down until you find the ScanSnap Manager for Mac section. Find the correct MAC OS version and download the corresponding ScanSnap_V21L20.dmg file

6. Install Scansnap Manager from the newly downloaded file from the Japanese site (if you have an error saying that the software cannot be installed, make sure you have uninstalled/trashed the previous S10M version, making sure you have emptied the trash, maybe restart your MAC after uninstall/trash)

7. Once the software is installed you should be able to use your Scansnap S10 without problem (except that the Scansnap Manager program is in Japanese)

8. Copy the English.Iproj folder from your desktop into the Resources folder (follow the direction on how to get there in step 2)

9. Quit the Scansnap Manager

10. Start Scansnap Manager and the program should now run in English

i have been use apple products since i was 14 (so 23 years)

i have had an apple //e, an Mac SE (dual floppy), PowerBook 100, G3 Wallstreet PowerBook, Beige G3 Desktop, 17" 1ghz AL PowerBook, and finally a Core 2 Duo 2ghz White MacBook. (i also own several intel mac minis, the 17" imac g4, g4 towers etc - but they are "work" computers and not "mine")

i love macs - but i hate the touch

and 6 months ago i bought a touch

Crime Against humanity #1 - it doesn't have copy and paste.

for this reason alone there should be class action lawsuit, jail time, and televised painful public executions.

or perhaps in the interest of saving the planet - the executives should be used a human mine detectors, clearing mined fields in the war torn parts of the world.

you might think this is ridiculous and extreme - of all the things to get work up about - copy and paste missing from a crappy $600 touch screen computer that fits in your shirt pocket.

you might say, josh - there are bigger issues to get upset about.

you might say - what about the oceans dying, the erosion of farm land, the drying up of the aquifers, and the mass extinctions occuring right now.

i would say - you're right.

The keyboard sucks in soo many ways.

a) it has several different modes depending on what application you are using - no consistency
b) it doesn't go wide screen when you tilt it - i want bigger keys - go wide
c) it doesn't have the T9 cellphone dictionary or any other kind of intelligent feature to guess what word i am typing and then let me pick it
d) the keys are too small

at first i thought this way a problem with the accelerometer but then i got a game (labyrinth lite - http://www.macworld.com/article/134966/2008/08/labyrinth.html?lsrc=rss_main) and the accelerometer is very responsive - so why is the tilt so screwed up???

when safari crashes, it just reboots the app, like nothing happened. like it didn't just fail and crash. that sucks.

I can live without
Quicksilver - I just use Spotlight instead to do the same thing

Mac Mail too Slow

I can't use it because my mailbox is several gigabytes in size, and I use IMAP shared folders that 20gbs+ and Mail is way tooo slow.

I would like to use it but it was driving me crazy. Switching to thunderbird solved the problem.
